Naraya: The Most popular needlecraft shop
As a needlecraft shop always packed with
shoppers, I feel Naraya is a must to be
mentioned for shopping in Bangkok.
Say, if
you
want
to
shop
beyond
Thai
silk (e.g.
Jim
Thompson's,)
Naraya
is
a
place also to consider.
This
needlecraft shop
has lively
and
colorful
designs
of cotton products such as bags,
bedding,
tableware,
etc. Whenever you visit the shop,
you'll always see new arrival products priced so
reasonable that you have to buy them. I normally
see most
shoppers ending up
carrying
several bags. (Possibly buying for
themselves and for their love ones back
home.)
Naraya is popular among
both Bangkok people and
(possibly more so for)
tourists. There are
standalone outlets in
hotels
and
shopping malls but I'd recommend the ones in
Central World
Plaza and Sukhumvit 24,
they quite big and easy to find.

Review
Naraya products are attractive with
lively colors, designs, and neat
craftsmanship. The price is more
than worth what you get. And
that's why you always see people mobbed
in every Naraya shop. Despite
their limited outlets, most Naraya shops
are easily accessed by the
skytrain and subway systems. Worth
a visit especially for lady
shoppers.
If you're looking for true "Thainess"
to bring back home, Naraya may not be
the best choice since they are mostly
cotton. Silk plays an
important part of Thainess* and in this
case, Jim Thompson Thai silk is a better
souvenir (despite its American name.) Yet you
have to check your budget because Jim
Thompson is classy and pricey.
* For example, the national Thai dress
is silk, the Thai Airways motto is
"Smooth as silk."
Naraya is ideal for
-Shoppers of Thai needle crafts 5/5
-Budget shoppers of quality products 5/5
-Travelers looking for souvenirs 4.5/5
