Sri Maha
Mariamman temple: The most respected Indian
temple
Did you ever notice that where there's an Indian community, there
has to be Sri Maha
Mariamman temple, and this is no
exception for Bangkok.
For Bangkok people, Sri Maha
Mariamman temple is more known as
Wat
Khaek Silom. This southern Hindu
Indian temple
was
constructed by
the
Indian immigrants in Silom
around 1879. In
the early years, worshipping Goddess Uma
at the temple was
restricted only for Hindus.
Presently, the temple is
open for any worshippers
even tourists. There
is also a yearly festival at the temple around October with a parade
of Goddess
Uma along Silom
and Sathorn
roads.
If you want to see more of the Indian
culture in Bangkok beyond the Erawan shrine
and Pahurat
market, make a visit to Sri Maha Mariamman temple.
