Thaniya:
The hub of golf shopping and Japanese
nightlife
Thaniya, named
after Thaniya road, is the hub
of golf shopping and Japanese
nightlife. The latter, however, tends to be
most known for.
During the day, Thaniya Plaza, a
commercial building on Thaniya road is
mobbed by golfers. Here, golfers can shop
countless hours from store to
store. During the night when
the golfing stores begin to close, the
entire road wakes up for the arrival of
the Japanese. Most are expatriates who, instead of
heading home after work, would hang out with their
friends till late night. A
social practice they also perform in
Japan. With almost
200 bars, pubs, and restaurants,
Thaniya is their second home.
Some
socialize here so frequently that their home
becomes just a place to
sleep. (Besides, shopping in Thaniya Plaza during the
weekend!) This area is one
of the "most Japanese" in
Thailand.
Thaniya has an uncommon nature you can
hardly find anywhere in Bangkok.
It is the hubs of golf shopping during
the day and Japanese nightlife during
the night. Nowhere else in Bangkok can
be a hub day and night like Thaniya.
Note
Nightlife in Thaniya means
Japanese. Any non-Japanese
may feel uncomfortable upon
entering pubs and bars here.
It is
common that some places may pay less
attention to the non-Japanese
customers. Go to Patpong
for nightlife, only 5 minutes away by
foot.
